Congratulations on finishing your classes this year! Remember to take care of yourself while studying for finals. The Law Library will be putting out some snacks and puzzles for you during this trying time! Don’t forget that you are also more than your grades. We are all better than our worst exam.
Law Library News:
- Tomorrow (Friday 4/26) there will be a display in the Reading Room on the large table near the circulation desk to celebrate the Right to Read. There will be free copies of Banned Books for law students to take home (including books like The Bluest Eye, Fun Home, and Persepolis), and American Library Association “Free People Read Freely” pins, bookmarks, and stickers. In a year of unprecedented book bans and attacks on libraries, it’s important that we have conversations on the impact of censorship on our society.
- If you’re feeling anxious or stressed about finals, the law library will be bringing in animals for pet therapy this Tuesday, April 30, from 12-1pm in the Student Lounge. Take a study break and hang out with some animals in the student lounge this Tuesday!
- We’d like continue to get some feedback about casebooks being on reserve for 2-hour loans at the law library. This survey is a total of 3 multiple choice questions and 1 open ended question and should take you somewhere between 1-2 minutes or less (unless you are procrastinating writing your seminar paper, in which case you can really ruminate for a while if you need to). Please take this survey!
Law Library Resource Highlight:
- With final exams here, many of you have been asking us about study aids and other helpful resources. In particular, if you would like to use CALI for their lessons and materials for studying, please email lawref@cornell.edu if you need the authorization code to create your account.
- The Law Library has various E-Book and Online Study Aids to help, which you can explore through our guide here: E-Book & Online Study Aid Collections – *Law Databases – LibGuides at Cornell University.
- We also have physical study aids like the “in a nutshell” series and Examples & Explanations (E&E) study aids on reserve at the circulation desk. These study aids give short explanations of legal concepts followed by examples to test your understanding.
- Past exams that you can use for practice can be found on the Registrar’s Website in the Exam Archive.
Local Library Highlight:
- Join Cornell University Library in a Right to Read Conversation and Reception at Mann Library Gallery on Friday, April 26, from 3-4pm (reception from 4-5:30pm). The conversation will be about how schools, libraries, and prisons are affected by censorship and how these institutions are providing access to books.
- This event isn’t at a library… but it’s about cats, and libraries and cats go hand in hand (can’t explain why, it’s just a fact) so we’ll include it anyway. Sunday, April 28th from 10am-2pm, the American Association of Feline Practitioners at the Veterinary School is hosting an event all about cats. There will be adoptable cats at the event, brought by Brown Coat Cat Rescue, cat-themed bingo, professional pet portraits (bring your cat to school day!), raffle prices, crafts and more!
