KEYWORDS: Law Library Weekly Newsletter

Welcome back to Keywords, the only weekly law library newsletter that is as culturally au courant as it is legally informative. Pop Quiz: Which Jr., famous for his portrayal of an infamous Jr. and former lawyer, gave the commencement address to Cornell’s 2020 graduates this past weekend? If you answered, “Why, the mellifluously voiced Leslie Odom Jr.”, then bravo. And if you don’t know, now you know.

Without further ado, here are this week’s legal research and library usage tips.

Get Carded

Look around, look around at how lucky you are to be studying in the Gould Reading Room right now! As a law student, your Cornell ID grants you exclusive after-hours access to the ultimate study paradise. This paragon of silent work havens has everything – vaulted ceilings, reverently hushed tones, and other studious law students. Just remember to always carry your ID card with you, even if you need to step out for the merest of moments. For once the doors are shut, you’ll be locked out of this study heaven for too lo-oo-o-oo-ong.

Saying it louder for those in the back: don’t leave the Reading Room without your ID.

Pop Quiz #2: Did you know that on the Reading Room circulation desk lies a suggestion box where one can leave their suggestions? Well, if you didn’t know, now you know. Share your ideas, comments, and recommendations with us! You can also share your suggestions for future law library workshops by completing this short survey.

Banned Books Week

Next week marks the start of Banned Books Week. From September 26 – October 2, libraries from all over the world will be celebrating the freedom to read. In fact, your favorite law library will be holding a few pop quizzes in support of this year’s theme – “Books Unite Us. Censorship Divides Us.” Keep an eye on our Instagram, Twitter, and website for more banned books news.

We will be back next week with a new edition of Keywords. In the meantime, continue to wear your mask, get ready for Banned Books Week, and send us your legal research questions at lawref@cornell.edu.
